Our History

Happy Valley Goose Bay Housing and Homelessness Coalition is a non-profit indigenous led organization. We have been evolving since 2006. During this time, a group of community representatives had become aware that a lack of housing was becoming an issue in Happy Valley Goose Bay. In response to this, a community advisory board was formed in 2006. The Advisory board worked together to advocate and lobby to improve the housing situation in our community.

In 2012, the Community Advisory board changed its name to Happy Valley-Goose Bay Housing and Homelessness Coalition. Since then, the organization has grown significantly. In 2022, the Coalition became incorporated and have been successful in securing funding from various sources to provide housing and wrap around holistic services for seniors.

To date, the Coalition has secured funding to provide 39 affordable rental apartments for seniors. The Coalition is also focused on providing holistic wrap around services. They have identified three groups of people that have urgent and unmet housing needs.

Currently, the Coalition is focused on Senior Housing as according to a Housing Needs assessment commissioned by the Labrador Friendship Centre in 2022, seniors were listed as one of the top three groups of persons in need of homes and wrap around services. The Coalition would like to help seniors to age in place with dignity and integrity and to thrive.
